About Parts Research
Part numbers consist of numerals and letters and can be up to twenty characters in length.
Multi-franchised parts dealers often insert prefixes before OEM part numbers. These prefixes must be deleted to enable price checks.
The prefix is usually one or two-characters, followed by a hyphen or a space.
For example:
A for Mercedes
HO- for Honda
K for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge
KI- for Kia
MI- for Mitsubishi
MZ- for Mazda
NI- for Nissan
TO- for Toyota
VW- for Volkswagen
Citroen part numbers are shown without preceding zeros.
There are several car companies which utilise dashes, spaces, dots or slashes.
